MCS Coca-Cola LLC is Implementing a Water Efficiency Program to Reduce Inefficient Water Consumption

At the “Blue Gold” National Water Sector Forum organized at the initiative of the President of Mongolia, MCS Coca-Cola participated and provided information to the public about its Water Efficiency Program aimed at reducing inefficient water consumption.

By implementing this program, we have reduced water consumption by 29 percent.

Using two liters of water to produce one liter of product means:

  • It is six times lower than the national standard of water usage per unit of product in Mongolia, and
  • It leads in water efficiency within the operating region (Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Mongolia).

We will continue to reduce water consumption and are working toward reaching 1.7 liters by 2025. . In addition, since 2010 we have been purifying all water used in the factory’s production process. The plant has the capacity to treat 2,000 tons of wastewater per day, and the treated water is clean enough for fish to live in it. This purified water is supplied free of charge to organizations such as the City Public Utility Department of Ulaanbaatar, Evt Chuluu LLC, and Bat-Undur Khairkhan LLC for street cleaning and irrigation of green areas

As part of its sustainable development goals, MCS Coca-Cola aims to reach 100% water reuse by 2030.

Congratulations to the winners of the “iCoke Believe in Magic & Win” program!

Under the “iCoke Believe in Magic & Win” program by MCS Coca-Cola, three winners were selected to travel to Qatar and watch the Round of 16 matches of the FIFA World Cup live, receiving their “Certificates of Rights.”

Winner H. Tserenbold:

“My daughter was very confident that she would win. I think it was her luck that made us win…

-My name is Khurelbaatar Tserenbold. I live in Darkhan-Uul province. I joined the iCoke promotion in 2017, registering the codes from every bottle I drank in the iCoke app.

Usually, I would win small prizes from the drinks. In 2020, I won a scooter. This time, I became a winner of this major program to watch the FIFA World Cup in Qatar live. I’m extremely happy about it.

My daughter was very confident we’d go to Qatar. She told her grandparents, ‘Give the bottle codes to Dad, we’re going to Qatar!’ I believe her luck helped us win. I still can’t fully believe that I actually won.

I thank everyone at MCS Coca-Cola. I hope you continue organizing great promotions and selecting many winners.

Winner Munkhselenge: When I saw my number among the winners, I was surprised and thought, ‘It can’t be… Can someone really have the same number?’

-My name is Munkhselenge. I was doing my doctoral research in Portugal and came back on vacation. I usually drink MCS Coca-Cola products like Bonaqua, Fuze Tea, etc. When I learned about the iCoke program that collects codes inside bottles for a chance to win prizes, I downloaded the app and started collecting points. I thought, ‘Let’s just give it a try,’ and eventually, I became a winner.

I’m really happy. At first, I didn’t believe it. When I saw my number, I was astonished. I even replayed the live broadcast on CENTRAL TV, and they announced my lottery number with my full name. That’s when I realized it was real.

I wish the team at MCS Coca-Cola continued success in their work.

Winner Tuyaa: As a young person, I wanted him to see the world, so I transferred my prize to my son.

-Hello, my name is Tuyaa. I participated from Nalaikh district and have been using the iCoke app since 2018. I didn’t realize I had won until I received the call, as I couldn’t watch the live broadcast. I usually drink small Coca-Cola, Fanta, and Orange Crystal beverages, and had collected 200 codes. I’m very happy to win, but I decided to transfer the prize to my son so that a young person could experience traveling abroad. I also want to thank the MCS Coca-Cola team for organizing such a fantastic program.

Son, Khosbayar:

I can’t believe we’re actually going. Even though I didn’t download the iCoke app myself, I always gave my mom the bottle codes when I drank the beverages. It still feels unbelievable. Regarding football, I support the Portugal team, so I plan to watch Portugal’s match in Qatar.  Khosbayar:

President U. Khurelsukh visited and got acquainted with the operations of MCS Coca-Cola

Under the initiative of the President of Mongolia, a national movement on “Food Supply and Safety” is being carried out across the country. Within this framework, President U. Khurelsukh visited the MCS Coca-Cola plant, which has been operating for 21 years under the official Coca-Cola franchise.

MCS Coca-Cola employs over 950 people, ranks among Mongolia’s top 100 companies, and operates production at a global standard with strict quality management systems. Currently, the company produces 160 varieties of drinks—including water, juice, and tea—under 21 brands, reaching consumers nationwide through more than 16,000 partners, bringing world-class brands to Mongolian customers.

President U. Khurelsukh emphasized: “Due to border and customs challenges, it is necessary to focus on food supply. In the coming years, the aim is to meet domestic demand with 19 core products and eventually export them. National producers and wealth creators such as MCS Coca-Cola will play a critical role in this. The MCS Group is a strategically important company for Mongolia due to its contributions to the country.”

The company’s first product produced under the VIO brand, Millenia natural mineral water, replaces imported products with domestic production, with plans to expand into exports.

Since 2018, MCS Coca-Cola has been implementing its “Sugar Reduction Program” in stages. Out of 46 flavors, 8 have had their sugar content reduced so far, and the plan is to reduce 1–2 flavors each year going forward.

To give consumers more choice, the company currently offers 8 sugar-free flavors and 9 low-sugar flavors (with less than 5% sugar content).

In this regard, the company highlighted the importance of promoting proper consumption of sugar-containing products and consumer education. In March of this year, CEO L. Myagmarjav provided input to the draft law on imposing special excise taxes on carbonated and non-carbonated flavored drinks containing sugar.

Over the past decade, as part of its corporate social responsibility and sustainable development goals, MCS Coca-Cola has reduced water usage by half per liter of product and installed facilities to purify all water used in production.

The company has also commissioned environmentally friendly, emission-free steam boilers powered by gas. Furthermore, as part of its goal to recycle all beverage containers by 2030, the company has launched the “Plastic-Free World” initiative, promoting waste separation and recycling habits among the public.

The factory’s purified water was used to water the “Billion Trees”

Under the initiative of the President of Mongolia and as part of the “Billion Trees” national movement, 35,000 trees are being planted in October around six gorges of Bogd Khan Mountain, specifically near the Baruun Zalaat area. These newly planted trees are being watered with purified water from the MCS Coca-Cola factory.

MCS Coca-Cola was the first among Mongolian food manufacturers to establish a wastewater purification facility in 2010. This facility can purify 99% of all water used in the factory’s technological processes. The purified water from this facility fully complies with:

  • MNS 4943 : 2015 standard “Requirements for water supplied to the environment”
  • MNS 6734 : 2018 standard “General requirements for reused purified water and technical water”

Minister of Environment and Tourism, B. Bat-Erdene, stated:

In the “Billion Trees” national movement, to ensure the planted trees provide economic benefits, the government promotes the use of greywater or reservoir water for irrigation rather than potable water. Organizations that purify and reuse industrial water need economic incentives, such as exemptions from water fees, and we plan to focus on creating such a legal environment.

Director of the Forest Agency, B. Oyunsanaa, added: The trees in the six gorges of Bogd Khan Mountain will receive autumn irrigation now and another irrigation during spring snowmelt. Trees generally do not require water unless pollution levels are very high. The purified water from MCS Coca-Cola meets standards suitable for purposes other than drinking, making it fully appropriate for tree irrigation.
